Rewards and Awards
'You Can Do It'
At Merton Abbey School we have a reward system known as 'You Can Do It!'
We earn points for Working Hard, Organisation, Confidence and Getting Along.
These are collected on a chart in each classroom. When we have 10 points in each category we get our first 'You Can Do It' Certificate and our photo is displayed on the 'You Can Do It' board in the entrance hall.
Star of the Week
Each week one child from each class is chosen to receive the Star of the Week certificate. This is usually awarded to a child who has shown outstanding effort in school during the week. Children receiving this award have their names listed in the weekly Newsletter.
Attendance and Punctuality
Each term we have an Attendance and Punctuality Assembly when parents are invited to come and share their child's sucess. Awards are given out for 100% Attendance and 100% Punctuality. In the past we have been lucky enough to have the Mayor of Merton awarding the certificates and prizes.
HOMEWORK
Homework can help your children to develop study skills that will be of value throughout their school life and beyond. It also teaches them that learning takes place anywhere, not just in the classroom. Homework can benefit children in more general ways as well. It fosters positive character traits such as independence and responsibility and can teach children how to manage their time. The children are given tasks such as learning spellings, mathematics and reading.
Parents are encouraged to hear their child read every night and record this in their home/school book. Children can read a book of their own choice from school or from home. All Key Stage 2 children have Learning Logs, which must be completed each week. These are an exciting and innovative way to encourage children to become lifelong learners
